چکیده

Thermal power stations using pulverised coal as fuel, generate large quantity of ash as waste by product, which poses dual problem of environment and disposal. Flyash is a versatile material with many possible applications such as land filling and in land reclamation of low lying areas. An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the behaviour of compacted ash overlying sand deposit. The upper layer of ash is deposited at a relative density of 64% and 81% respectively on natural water content and lower layer of sand is deposited at relative densities of 40% and 70% respectively. Plate load test were conducted in plane strain conditions on footing for D/B = 0,1,1.5, 2, and 4 where ‘D’ is thickness of upper flyash overlying sand deposit have been studied. From the study it can be concluded that the settlement of footing decreases as D/B ratio increases and also with the increases of relative density of ash and sand.

The Performance of Fly Ash as Fill Material for Embankment Model on Soft Soil

Fly ash is one of coal ashes resulted from power plants using coal to generate electricity. As a result of large utilization of coal, large volumes of coal ash produced as waste material. Direct use of these materials in construction projects, not only provides a promising solution to the disposal problem, but also as an alternative for structural fills material. High shear strength, low compre...

Distribution of trace elements in coal and coal fly ash and their recovery with mineral processing practices: A review

Today coal is among the most important energy sources. In order to meet the world's energy demands, low-calorie lignite with a high ash content is generally used in the large capacity coal-fired thermal power plants. As a result of coal firing, wastes such as fly ash, slag, and flue gas are also produced. Subsequently, toxic trace elements within coal are transferred to wastes such as slag, fl...

Chemical and Mineralogical Transformations of Coal Fly Ash after Landfilling

Most applications of coal fly ash, such as concrete, structural fill, and waste stabilization, use fresh fly ash received directly from coal fired power generation plants. However, if the current rate of usage continues, the demand for fresh coal fly ash for various applications will increase and utilization of coal fly ash disposed in landfills will have to be considered. This study investigat...
